  • 16 ounces fresh strawberries, hulled and large berries cut in half
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar Can be reduced or replaced with a sugar substitute
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper Adjust to taste

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Place strawberries in a large bowl.
  2. Drizzle the balsamic vinegar over the strawberries and sprinkle with sugar.
  3. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Cover and let sit at room temperature for at least 1 hour, but no more than 4 hours.
  5. Grind black pepper over strawberries just before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Optionally, freeze for later use; however, the texture may change.
