  • 6 medium Potatoes Peeled and sliced thinly
  • 4 tablespoons Butter For greasing the baking dish
  • 1 cup Cream
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 2 cups Cheese Shredded, for layering
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs Optional, for scalloped potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 medium Onion Chopped, for scalloped potatoes

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and slice the potatoes thinly.
  3. For potatoes au gratin: Layer the potatoes in a buttered baking dish, sprinkling cheese, garlic, salt, and pepper between layers.
  4. Pour cream and milk over the top before baking.
Cooking
  1. Bake for 45 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  2. For scalloped potatoes: Prepare similarly but use a mix of onion and breadcrumbs for added texture.
  3. Bake until the top is crisp and potatoes are tender.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. For freezing, wrap tightly and freeze for up to 2 months. To lighten the dish, consider using low-fat dairy products.
