Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8- or 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the flour, baking powder, and salt, alternating with the milk. Mix until everything is smooth and well combined.
Baking
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly, and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is still warm, sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top and press them in gently.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a lighter option, serve with low-fat whipped cream or a side of fresh fruit. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or freeze individual slices for 2-3 months.
