- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add diced onions and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook until browned, approximately 5-6 minutes.
- Season the mixture with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, stirring well to combine.
- Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Add the penne or rotini pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes.
- Reduce the heat and stir in heavy cream and honey BBQ sauce until well combined.
- Gradually add shredded cheddar cheese, stirring until melted.
- Taste and adjust seasonings if necessary. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
To make it healthier, use turkey or plant-based sausage. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Add vegetables like bell peppers or spinach for extra nutrition.
