- Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and a light dusting of flour.
- In a large skillet, heat oil and butter over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Set aside on a plate.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and sauté until softened and fragrant.
- Add the shredded cabbage and thinly sliced apple. Cook for about 5 minutes until they start to soften.
- Stir in the apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and caraway seeds (if using). Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.
- Cover the skillet and let the mixture simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes until the cabbage is tender.
- Return the cooked chicken to the pan with the cabbage and apple mixture for a few minutes to warm it through.
- Serve hot alongside your favorite traditional German sides.
