Ingredients

Oils and Butters
  • 16 oz Olive Oil Rich in antioxidants, known for moisturizing properties.
  • 8 oz Coconut Oil Contributes to soap hardness and provides excellent lather.
  • 8 oz Shea Butter Hydrates dry skin and absorbs easily.
Lye and Water
  • 6 oz Lye (sodium hydroxide) Necessary for saponification. Handle with care.
  • 12 oz Distilled Water Ensures best reaction with ingredients.
Optional Additions
  • 1-2 oz Essential Oils Add for fragrance and additional benefits.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by ensuring your workspace is clean and organized. Gather all your ingredients and equipment, and wear safety gear when working with lye.
  2. Slowly add the lye to distilled water in a well-ventilated area. Stir gently until fully dissolved and set aside to cool.
Melting Oils
  1. Combine olive oil, coconut oil, and shea butter in a mixing bowl. Heat gently until fully melted and blended. Let cool to about 100-110°F.
Combining Ingredients
  1. Once the lye solution and oils are at similar temperatures, carefully add the lye solution to the oils.
  2. Use a hand blender to blend until the mixture reaches 'trace' and thickens.
Final Steps
  1. If using essential oils, add them now and stir for even distribution.
  2. Pour the soap mixture into molds, tapping gently to release air bubbles.
  3. Cover molds with a towel, allowing soap to saponify for about 24-48 hours.
  4. Remove soap from molds and cut into bars.
  5. Place bars on a drying rack and let cure for 4-6 weeks.

Notes

Store soap in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Consider personalizing with natural colorants for unique appeal.
