  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4-5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 0.5 cup beef broth or water
  • 0.25 cup milk (optional, for creaminess)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in chopped onion and minced garlic; sauté until the onion is soft.
Layering
  1. Layer cooked beef in the baking dish, followed by thinly sliced potatoes.
  2. Season with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
  3. Top with cheddar and Parmesan cheese.
  4. Pour beef broth around the edges for moisture.
Baking
  1. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes; then remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender.

Notes

Serve warm. Cool the casserole to room temperature before storing leftovers in an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.
