Preparation
- Cook the egg noodles in a pot of boiling water according to package directions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat over medium heat and add the ground beef, cooking and breaking it up until fully browned (about 6-8 minutes). Drain excess fat and set aside.
Cooking the Sauce
- Melt butter in the same skillet over medium heat, then whisk in flour continuously for about 2 minutes to create a roux.
- Gradually add beef broth, whisking constantly to avoid lumps, and cook until the sauce thickens (about 3-4 minutes).
- Whisk in the milk and continue stirring until the sauce thickens again (about 5-7 minutes).
- Add garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, and salt, stirring to combine.
- Reduce heat to low, then stir in cooked noodles and browned beef until well combined and heated through.
- Gently mix in the sour cream until fully incorporated.
Serving
- Serve hot, paired with vegetables or garlic toast.
Notes
For a healthier version, use lean ground beef or ground turkey. Store components separately for meal prep to avoid mushy noodles. Gluten-free options are available by substituting with gluten-free pasta and cornstarch.
