  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet instant yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (plus extra for topping)
  • 3/4 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (plus extra for topping)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract (optional) Optional ingredient for added flavor
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, instant yeast, and sugar.
  2. Add warm milk, egg, vanilla extract, almond extract (if using), and salt.
  3. Knead the dough on medium speed or by hand until smooth and elastic.
  4. Gradually add softened butter, kneading until fully incorporated.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough, press it into a greased 9×13-inch pan, and let it rise for 20-30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Dimple the dough with your fingers, add small pieces of butter in each dimple, and sprinkle generously with sugar and sliced almonds.
  3. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the cake is golden brown. Cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Serve with fresh fruit or yogurt for a nutritious snack. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days or freeze for up to three months.
