Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 pieces bratwursts
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups sauerkraut, drained if needed
  • 2 pieces apples, cored and sliced
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp caraway seeds
  • 2 pieces bay leaves
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Method

Cooking Bratwurst
  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the bratwursts and cook for about 5 minutes, turning them occasionally, until they are browned on all sides.
  3. Remove the bratwursts and set aside.
Cooking Onions and Sauerkraut
  1. In the same pan, add the sliced onions and cook for about 5 minutes until they become soft and slightly caramelized.
  2. Add the sauerkraut, apple slices, brown sugar, caraway seeds, and bay leaves to the pan. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook for about 3 minutes until the apples start to soften.
Final Cooking
  1. Return the browned bratwursts to the pan, nestling them into the sauerkraut and apples.
  2. Cover the pan and reduce the heat to low. Let simmer for about 20-25 minutes until the bratwursts are fully cooked.
  3. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
