Cooking Bratwurst
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add the bratwursts and cook for about 5 minutes, turning them occasionally, until they are browned on all sides.
- Remove the bratwursts and set aside.
Cooking Onions and Sauerkraut
- In the same pan, add the sliced onions and cook for about 5 minutes until they become soft and slightly caramelized.
- Add the sauerkraut, apple slices, brown sugar, caraway seeds, and bay leaves to the pan. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook for about 3 minutes until the apples start to soften.
Final Cooking
- Return the browned bratwursts to the pan, nestling them into the sauerkraut and apples.
- Cover the pan and reduce the heat to low. Let simmer for about 20-25 minutes until the bratwursts are fully cooked.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Serve with mashed potatoes or crusty bread for a hearty meal.
