Preparation
- Soak the sliced okra in the beaten egg in a small bowl for about 5 to 10 minutes.
- In a medium bowl, combine the cornmeal, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Cooking
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Carefully dredge the soaked okra pieces in the cornmeal mixture.
- Once the oil is hot, place the coated okra into the skillet. Stir continuously to fry evenly.
- Reduce the heat to medium when the okra begins to brown and continue to cook until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fried okra from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
For a healthier option, consider using whole wheat flour instead of cornmeal. You can also air fry the okra at 400°F for 10-12 minutes for a lighter version.
