Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 medium head green cabbage, cleaned and cut into large triangular pieces
  • 1 lb smoked turkey sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or cooking oil

Method

Preparation
  1. Clean the cabbage thoroughly. Cut into triangular wedges, then slice each piece down the middle. Chop onions and peppers, and slice the turkey sausages into rounds.
  2. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add the sausage slices and sauté until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add ground beef to the same pan and season with Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook until browned, then remove and drain excess grease.
  4. Add cabbage to the same pan, followed by onions and bell peppers. Sprinkle with additional seasoning and stir well.
  5. Cover and cook on medium-low for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally until tender.
  6. Add cooked beef and sausages back to the pan, stir together, and cook uncovered for 5 more minutes.
  7. Serve hot with cornbread or rice.

Notes

For varying dietary needs, consider using lean ground beef or swapping beef for ground turkey. This dish can also be made vegetarian by using plant-based crumbles or extra firm tofu.
