Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 4 pieces ripe tomatoes Heirloom or beefsteak work well
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese Bocconcini or sliced
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
Dressing and Seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • to taste balsamic vinegar Optional
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Wash the tomatoes and basil leaves.
  2. Cut the tomatoes into thick slices, adjusting the thickness based on your preference.
  3. If using a whole block of mozzarella, slice it into thick rounds that match the thickness of your tomato slices.
Assembly
  1. In a serving bowl, alternate layers of tomato slices, mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil leaves.
  2. Drizzle extra virgin olive oil over the arranged salad. If desired, add a splash of balsamic vinegar for added flavor. Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Serve immediately to enjoy the salad fresh.

Notes

This salad is best served fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one day. Avoid adding olive oil and salt until you're ready to eat. Freezing is not recommended.
