Ingredients
  

For the dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Bring to room temperature for easy mixing.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour You can substitute with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed Adds sweetness and a rich flavor.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Balances the sweetness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon For a hint of spicy warmth.
  • 2 tablespoons cold water Helps bind the dough.
  • 1 large egg, beaten For egg wash.
  • powdered sugar to taste optional, for dusting Optional for a sweet finishing touch.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in cold water until the dough forms a ball.
  5. Divide the dough in half and roll out one half to fit the bottom of a greased baking dish.
  6. Spread the brown sugar cinnamon filling on top of the dough.
  7. Roll out the second half of the dough and place it on top.
  8. Seal the edges and brush with beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let cool, dust with powdered sugar if desired, and cut into bars.

Notes

These bars can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or frozen for up to three months. For serving, they can be paired with Greek yogurt or a side of fresh fruit.
